Okinawa music is usually divided into two separate styles. One is classical Ryukyu music that has been performed since Ryukyu Kingdom era, and the other is Minyo are folk songs performed by common people. The main characteristic of Okinawan music is it’s scale, most common being C major minus D and A. This music scale exists also in Indonesia, and Southeast Asia. The lyrics are written in Okinawan dialect.
