Okinawa Prefectural Government building
The Okinawa Prefectural Government building was built in 1990, and is located in the Izumizaki district of Naha City. It has 14 floors above the ground and two underground.
The buildings of the Okinawa Prefectural Police Department and the Prefectural Assembly are located just next to the Prefectural Government building, and it’s literally the hub of Okinawa.
The old Prefectural Government building was also located on the same spot before the war, but it was completely destroyed in an air raid. The government then moved to Ginowan and, after the war, again back to the current location as the Ryukyu Government Office.
At that time, the United States Civil Administration of the Ryukyu Islands (USCAR) was located in same building. Later, the USCAR moved to Urasoe in 1968.
