Sougenji historic site

SougenjiSougenji (Sougen temple) is located in the Tomari district of Naha. It’s said that Sougenji was built in 1527, but it’s unknown who built the temple of the Rinzai-shu sect Buddhism.

Most of the building was destroyed during the World War II, and only a stonewall remains, which is now designated an Important Cultural Property. The site became a public park after the war, and a library was also located there. However, all buildings were later demolished, and now the park has no structures except the stonewall.
