Sougenji (Sougen temple) is located in the Tomari district of Naha. It’s said that Sougenji was built in 1527, but it’s unknown who built the temple of the Rinzai-shu sect Buddhism.

Most of the building was destroyed during the World War II, and only a stonewall remains, which is now designated an Important Cultural Property. The site became a public park after the war, and a library was also located there. However, all buildings were later demolished, and now the park has no structures except the stonewall.
