Minna Island (Minnajima) is 12m high flat atoll island located about 7km west of the Motobu peninsula. The pure white sandy beaches reach from east to north of the island, and coral reefs surround it. Long time ago, Minna Island was a sanctuary known as Mennano-utaki. It was a desert island until group of sugar growers from Sesoko pioneered there in 1890. Later 13 families migrated from Sesoko to Minna, and the village was registered about 1902. Today crops such as carrots and watermelons are grown there, and livestock breeding is also done.
