Tsuken Island
Tsuken Island is located 5km southeast of Katsuren peninsula. The height of the island is 39m from the sea level, and it is famous as “the island of carrots.” During the Battle of Okinawa, the island was used as a fortress to defend Okinawa Island, and it became the site of a bloodiest combat. After the war, island residents were forced to move to Haebaru area on Okinawa, and were not allowed to move back to the island until 1950. Tomaihama, regarded as the most beautiful beach on Okinawa is popular among young people who love marine sports.
