Bingata

Bingata are dyed textile products peculiar to Okinawa. It’s dyeing techniques were developed for coloring textiles used by women of high social class. The original technique was combined with dyeing methods imported from China and southeast Asia through Ryukyuan trading routes, and became Okinawa’s dyeing technique called Bingata. It is used in many different products, such as kimonos, obi, Noren and handkerchiefs.
