Fuchagi

fuchagi

Fuchagi is a traditional Okinawan sweet. It’s a kind of rice cake that has Azuki beans on top of an oblong cake.

Okinawan people offer Fuchagi to gods and ancestors when praying for a good harvest. It’s also a charm against evil on Aug. 15th of the lunar calendar, which is Sep. 27th this year.

Aug. 15th of the lunar calendar is a day of full moon, and it’s called “Chu-shu no Meigetsu,” the “harvest full moon.” People in Japan eat rice cakes and have parties under the full moon, and Fuchagi is the same on Okinawa.
