Akabana or Hibiscus- symbolizes the Okinawa Island blooming all year round. One of the  original species is called chinar hibiscus in Okinawa, among the many species. “Gusobana (flower of the other world)” is also offered to altar flowers planted in graves and cemeteries. Currently many of the Hawaiian hibiscus are grown here in Okinawa also.
