Basho

Okinawan textile that has been  used in clothing since days of old is bashofu. The oldest document recording the use of this fabric date back to 1546.

Bashofu is made of fibers of the ito-basyo plant using a time-consuming process, including collecting the fibers and boiling the thread before dyeing it.

Bashofu is cool, thin and crisp, and is very suitable to Okinawa’s hot climate.
