This traditional event is held on Aguni Island on Lunar New Year’s eve. People celebrate the new year by praying for good health and harvest, singing, dancing and visiting every house of the village to ask if they need salt. “Maasuya” literally means “salt seller.”  Aguni Island is located about 25 min. from Naha Airport by plane or about two hours by ferry from Tomari Port.
