Henza island (Henzajima)  is located 4km northeast from Yokatsu peninsula. In 1972, it was connected to Yakena Island by what became known as “the Road on the Sea.” In the past, the island was known as a relay point of Yanbaru ferry boats. In 1969, the construction of an oil stock base of the Gulf Oil Inc and what is now the Okinawa Oil Refinery Inc started, and the northeast sea area between Henza Island and Miyagi island was reclaimed. The oil storage base (CTS) with many large tanks was completed, and it’s the only such facility on Okinawa. Currently another oil company has taken over the oil business and the island has wholly changed into a CTS island.
